The GUHRING 9005460200000 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to accurately locate and start holes before drilling operations. Built to Series 546 standards, it features a 142-degree drill point angle that suits a wide range of standard twist drill follow-up operations. The cutting diameter measures 20mm (0.7874 inches) with a matching 20mm Weldon shank for positive, slip-resistant chuck engagement. Overall length is 131mm (5.1575 inches) and flute length is 45mm (1.7717 inches). The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for general-purpose spotting work across a variety of workpiece materials. Right-hand cutting geometry and a two-flute spiral design promote clean chip evacuation at the spot location.
This spotting drill is intended for use in machine shop, manufacturing, and metalworking environments where precise hole location is required before full-depth drilling. The 142-degree point angle matches the geometry of many standard jobber and stub-length drill bits, allowing the spot to guide the following drill without walk or deflection. It is suited for use on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills in both production and maintenance settings. The Weldon flat shank seats securely in side-lock holders commonly found in these applications.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style spotting drill for use with standard side-lock Weldon shank toolholders accepting a 20mm shank diameter.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully into the side-lock holder and tighten the set screw against the flat before use. Verify runout after installation using a dial indicator before beginning a production run. Spotting drills should be run at speeds and feeds appropriate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity as specified in the tooling manufacturer documentation.
