The GRIP-RITE SDZ114 is a fine-thread, self-drilling drywall screw engineered for fastening drywall and gypsum board to light-gauge metal framing. The bugle head profile drives flush without tearing face paper, while the Phillips recess accepts standard drywall screw guns and variable-speed drills. Constructed from hardened steel — carbon steel that has been heat-treated, quenched, and re-tempered — these screws resist wear, corrosion, and abrasion under jobsite conditions. Maximum recommended drive speed is 2500 RPM. Each case contains 8000 screws, sized at 6 x 1-1/4 inches.
These screws are suited for commercial and residential drywall installation where gypsum board is being fastened to metal stud framing in the 10 to 12 gauge range. Fine-thread shanks grip metal framing securely without stripping. They are commonly used by drywall hangers and finish carpenters on steel-framed interior walls and ceilings where consistent, high-volume fastening is required.
Designed for fastening drywall and gypsum board to 10 to 12 gauge metal studs. Not recommended for wood framing applications where coarse-thread screws are the appropriate choice.
Installation is performed by drywall mechanics and finish carpenters using a variable-speed drywall screw gun or drill driver. Set drive speed at or below 2500 RPM to avoid overdriving and stripping the screw head or puncturing the face paper. Confirm metal stud gauge falls within the 10 to 12 gauge range before selecting this screw type — lighter gauge framing may require a different point style. Follow applicable local building codes and manufacturer spacing requirements for drywall fastener patterns.
