The GREENFIELD 536-6 is a 16-gauge steel stud guard plate designed to protect concealed piping, wiring, and cables routed through wall studs and framing members from accidental punctures. Commonly called a nail plate or protector plate, it mounts flush against framing wherever pipes or wires pass within striking distance of fasteners. At 6 inches long and 1.5 inches wide, this plate covers a standard single-penetration point in a wood or metal stud. Plumbers, electricians, and HVAC mechanics install these plates to meet IRC, IPC, and NEC requirements for mechanical protection of concealed runs.
The 536-6 is suited for residential and light commercial construction and renovation work. It is installed after rough-in, before drywall, wherever a pipe or wire is drilled or notched through a stud at a depth that puts it within 1.25 inches of the face of the framing. Common applications include copper or PEX water supply lines, drain rough-in, low-voltage wiring runs, and branch circuit cables that cannot be rerouted deeper into the framing cavity.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use protector plate for residential and light commercial wood or metal stud framing applications where code-required nail protection is needed for concealed pipe and wire runs.
Installed by licensed plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians during rough-in, prior to insulation and drywall. Plate is typically nailed or stapled flush to the face of the stud, centered over the penetration. Ensure all utilities in the work area are de-energized or depressurized before working near existing runs. Follow local AHJ requirements for plate placement depth and fastener type.
