The GOODMAN am9c960803bn is a 96 AFUE two-stage upflow/horizontal gas furnace designed for ducted residential and light commercial heating applications. It delivers 80,000 BTU/h input at high fire and 56,000 BTU/h at low fire, achieving corresponding output capacities of 76,800 BTU/h and 53,760 BTU/h. The unit runs on a multi-speed ECM blower motor rated at 0.5 hp, which reduces energy consumption during part-load operation. Low NOx burners meet emissions standards in regulated markets. Licensed HVAC technicians install and commission this furnace as a primary heating system in ducted residential or light commercial builds.
This furnace is sized for nominal 3-ton cooling coil pairings and fits standard upflow or horizontal duct configurations. The 17.5-inch cabinet width accommodates typical closet, alcove, and platform installations. Its two-stage gas valve modulates between low-fire and high-fire to match building load, improving comfort and reducing short-cycling. The ECM blower supports variable airflow, making it compatible with properly sized cooling coils and air handler setups in split-system configurations. It is a ducted indoor unit produced in the United States and is rated for single-phase, 115-volt electrical service.
Designed as an OEM upflow/horizontal two-stage gas furnace for ducted residential split-system installations requiring a 17.5-inch cabinet. Compatible components referenced in supplier data include part numbers 0170K00000S, 0170K00001S, 0270F05404, 72950, 72951, AFE18-60A, EFR02, HASFK-2, LPLP03, LPM-08, and RF000142. Consult current engineering documentation to confirm coil and accessories compatibility before ordering.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with local mechanical codes and the manufacturer installation instructions. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power and shut off the gas supply at the service valve before beginning any installation or service work. The furnace requires a dedicated 115-volt circuit with a maximum overcurrent protection of 15 amps and a minimum circuit ampacity of 7.8 amps. Venting must comply with applicable fuel gas codes such as the IFGC and the furnace must be properly grounded per NEC requirements.
