The GIBRALTAR SWPN-5A-G is a threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty locking applications in mechanical assemblies. The plunger features a 5/16-18 unified coarse thread with a 1-inch thread length and a steel body rated for general industrial use. The phenolic nose provides a non-marring contact point, making it suitable for applications where surface protection is a priority. Initial end force is 1.5 pounds, and final end force is 4.5 pounds, delivering a consistent spring-loaded detent action. This part is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and mechanical assemblers working on fixtures, jigs, and production equipment.
The SWPN-5A-G is used in light industrial and manufacturing environments where repeatable positioning or controlled resistance is needed. Typical applications include machine tool fixtures, assembly jigs, sliding mechanisms, and enclosure panels requiring a spring-loaded stop or detent point. The 3/16-inch plunger projection and 0.135-inch maximum plunger diameter make it well-suited for compact assemblies with limited clearance. The standard plunger length type and 1-inch body length allow straightforward installation into tapped holes without additional hardware.
Designed as a standard threaded spring plunger for use in any assembly or fixture accepting a 5/16-18 tapped hole with sufficient depth to accommodate a 1-inch thread length.
Installation requires a properly tapped 5/16-18 hole and a standard hex wrench or screwdriver slot tool appropriate to the plunger head style. Ensure the mating hole is clean and free of debris before threading in the plunger. Verify plunger projection clearance against mating components before final assembly. Degrease threads if adhesive thread-locking compound is to be applied, as the plunger does not include an integral locking element.
