The GIBRALTAR SWN10-2AFSP-G is a short threaded spring plunger designed for indexing, positioning, and light-duty locking applications in mechanical assemblies. The body is constructed from steel and features an 8-32 thread with a 1/2 inch thread length. The Delrin nose provides a low-friction contact surface that resists marring on mating parts. An internal locking element secures the plunger in the threaded bore once installed, preventing back-out under vibration. With a maximum plunger diameter of 0.07 inches and a 3/32 inch projection, this plunger fits in tight clearance envelopes where standard-length plungers would not.
This spring plunger is suited for use in fixture plates, jig components, machine tool assemblies, and light mechanical detent mechanisms. The 8-32 thread is a common size found in instrument panels, enclosures, and small-frame machinery. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and mechanical assemblers install this type of component when a repeatable, spring-loaded contact point or detent is needed. The short plunger length type makes it appropriate for shallow-bore applications where full-length plungers would bottom out or protrude excessively.
Designed as a direct-install threaded spring plunger for any tapped 8-32 bore requiring a spring-loaded nose with a locking body retention feature.
Install using a standard hex wrench or driver appropriate for the plunger body drive feature; avoid over-torquing, which can distort the locking element or bore threads. Ensure the mating bore is clean, properly tapped, and free of chips before installation. The locking element engages the bore threads during installation and is not designed for repeated removal and reinstallation cycles. Follow applicable mechanical assembly standards and equipment manufacturer guidelines when specifying spring plunger detent force for safety-critical indexing applications.
