The GIBRALTAR SW10-8S-PT-G is a stubby-style threaded spring plunger designed for precise, repeatable positioning and indexing in mechanical assemblies. Built with a steel body and steel nose, this plunger features a 1/2-13 thread and a body length of 0.750 inches. It delivers an initial end force of 5 pounds and a final end force of 28.5 pounds, making it well-suited for moderate-load positioning applications. A built-in locking element secures the plunger in the threaded bore once installed. Machinists, toolmakers, and mechanical assemblers use this type of component in jigs, fixtures, and production equipment where controlled spring force is required.
This spring plunger is used in industrial and manufacturing environments where a compact, stubby-profile plunger is needed to fit tight clearance conditions. The 0.248-inch maximum plunger diameter and 0.151-inch projection keep the installed envelope small, allowing use in applications with limited depth or spacing. It is threaded directly into a tapped hole in the workpiece or fixture body, eliminating the need for a separate housing. Typical applications include work-holding fixtures, detent mechanisms, assembly jigs, and machine tooling where consistent spring-loaded contact force is critical.
Designed as a standard threaded spring plunger for direct installation into 1/2-13 tapped holes in fixtures, jigs, and mechanical assemblies requiring stubby-profile, locking-type spring plungers.
Installation is performed by a machinist or mechanical assembler using a spanner wrench or appropriate drive tool matched to the plunger body. The receiving bore must be tapped to 1/2-13 specification and free of debris before installation. Torque the plunger until the locking element engages and the body is seated flush or as required by the assembly drawing. Do not over-torque, as this can deform the locking element or strip the threads in softer workpiece materials.
