The GIBRALTAR SSWPFN10-4B-G is a press fit ball plunger designed for use in positioning, indexing, and locating applications across industrial and mechanical assemblies. The body is constructed from passivated stainless steel with a nylon ball, offering corrosion resistance in demanding environments. At 0.25 inches in body diameter and 0.0471 inches in body length, this compact plunger installs by pressing directly into a pre-drilled or bored hole without threading. It delivers an initial end force of 3 pounds and a final end force of 7 pounds, making it suitable for light detent and latching functions. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and assembly line maintenance personnel are the typical installers.
This ball plunger fits into through-holes or blind holes in machine fixtures, jigs, tooling plates, and mechanical housings where repeatable part positioning is needed. The flanged body design provides a positive seating surface and prevents the plunger from pushing through the mounting hole. The nylon ball reduces wear on mating surfaces compared to steel ball versions, which makes it a common choice in fixtures that contact finished or soft workpieces. The passivated stainless steel body resists oxidation in wash-down or high-humidity environments.
Designed as a press fit replacement or new-installation ball plunger for jigs, fixtures, tooling plates, and mechanical assemblies requiring a 0.25 inch body diameter mounting hole.
Press fit ball plungers are installed by mechanical or tooling technicians using an arbor press or similar controlled-force pressing equipment. The receiving hole must be machined to the correct tolerance for a press fit; an undersized or oversized bore will affect retention and function. No locking element is included on this plunger, so proper hole sizing is critical to secure retention. Always relieve any load on the assembly before pressing the plunger in or removing it.
