The GIBRALTAR SSW10-4Y-G is a threaded spring plunger designed for use in indexing, positioning, and light-duty locking applications across mechanical assemblies. It features a 1/4-28 thread with a 1 inch thread length and a stainless steel body rated for corrosion-resistant service. The steel nose delivers a 3 lb initial end force and a 13 lb final end force, making it suitable for applications that require controlled, repeatable positioning force. The plunger projection measures 3/16 inch with a maximum plunger diameter of 0.118 inch. This part is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and mechanical assembly professionals working in industrial and OEM environments.
This spring plunger is commonly used in machine tool fixtures, jigs, dies, and production equipment where a threaded body must be installed into a tapped hole to provide spring-loaded ball or nose retention. The standard plunger length type makes it a straightforward fit for general-purpose positioning tasks. No locking element is included, so the plunger threads directly into the receiving hole without requiring a locking collar or set feature. Typical applications include panel assemblies, slide mechanisms, and fixture plates where a repeatable detent or stop point is required.
Designed as a standard-thread spring plunger for use in any mechanical assembly or fixture with a tapped 1/4-28 hole requiring a spring-loaded positioning or detent function.
Installation is performed by threading the plunger body directly into a tapped 1/4-28 hole using a hex key sized to the 0.0781 inch hex drive. Ensure the receiving thread is clean and free of debris before installation. De-energize or lock out any machine or assembly before servicing spring plungers in live equipment. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the internal spring or distort the plunger body.
