The GIBRALTAR MLP993-G is a die mold leader pin manufactured from nickel chromium molybdenum steel for use in injection mold and die casting tooling applications. The pin measures 1.5 inches in pin diameter and 5.75 inches in overall length (OAL), with a 1.75 inch head diameter and a 5/16 inch head height. The nickel chromium molybdenum steel construction provides the toughness and wear resistance required to maintain alignment under the high clamping forces and cycle counts typical in production tooling. Tool and die makers and mold technicians are the primary installers of this component.
Leader pins of this type are used to align mold halves or die sections during closing, ensuring precise registration between cavity and core components. This pin is suited for medium-to-large mold bases in both injection molding and compression molding setups where a 1.5 inch diameter leader pin is specified. It is sold individually and is appropriate for new mold builds as well as replacement of worn or damaged pins in existing tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-build component for mold bases and die sets requiring a 1.5 inch diameter leader pin with a 1.75 inch head diameter.
Leader pins are installed by qualified tool and die makers or mold maintenance technicians. Before servicing a mold or die, de-energize all hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical circuits and allow the tooling to reach a safe handling temperature. Inspect the leader pin bore and bushing for wear or damage before pressing the new pin into position. Verify head seating depth and pin alignment across all mold plates before returning the tool to production.
