The GIBRALTAR KN-62B-G is a brass round knurled check nut designed for use with 5/8-11 UNC threaded fastener assemblies. Check nuts, also called jam nuts or lock nuts, thread onto a bolt or stud and are tightened against a primary nut or component to prevent loosening under vibration or mechanical stress. This uncoated brass nut features a knurled round head for improved grip during hand-tightening and a two-diameter profile with a larger knurled head and a narrower base section. The overall height is 0.5 inches. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and mechanical tradespeople install this type of hardware in light industrial, plumbing, and equipment assembly applications.
This check nut is suited for threaded rod assemblies, instrument mounting, valve stem locknut applications, and any mechanical assembly requiring a secondary locking nut on a 5/8-11 UNC thread. The brass construction resists corrosion in moderate-moisture environments, making it a practical choice for plumbing fixtures, fluid system components, and indoor mechanical equipment. The uncoated finish is appropriate where a bare metal surface is preferred or where a subsequent coating will be applied on-site.
Designed for use on any 5/8-11 UNC threaded bolt, stud, or rod where a check nut or jam nut is required to lock a primary fastener or fitting in position.
Installation does not require specialized trade licensing but should follow standard mechanical assembly practices. Thread engagement should be verified to be clean and free of debris before installation. When using as a jam nut, thread the check nut onto the stud or bolt and tighten firmly against the primary nut using appropriate wrenches to prevent back-off. Do not overtighten brass hardware against hardened steel fasteners, as brass is a softer material and threads can be damaged by excessive torque.
