The GIBRALTAR KN-10SS-G is a round knurled check nut machined from stainless steel and designed for use with 10-24 UNC threaded fastener assemblies. Check nuts, also called jam nuts or locknuts, serve as a secondary locking element threaded against a primary nut to resist loosening from vibration, thermal cycling, or mechanical load. This nut measures 0.25 inches overall height, with a knurled head diameter of 0.75 inches and a head height of 0.1875 inches. The base diameter is 0.5 inches with a base height of 0.0625 inches. The uncoated stainless steel construction provides corrosion resistance without added plating. Typically installed by millwrights, HVAC technicians, plumbers, or electricians wherever a secondary locking nut is required in a threaded assembly.
This check nut is suited for light-duty locking applications across residential and commercial settings. Common install scenarios include panel hardware, equipment mounting brackets, sensor fittings, valve packing glands, and any threaded rod assembly requiring a jam nut to hold a primary fastener at a fixed position. The knurled head profile allows for hand-tightening or final torque with a wrench on the flat base surfaces. The stainless steel material makes it appropriate for wet, outdoor, or corrosive environments where carbon steel fasteners would be unsuitable.
Designed as a standard check nut replacement for any 10-24 UNC threaded fastener assembly requiring a secondary locking nut in stainless steel.
Installation is performed by threading the check nut onto the fastener shank and tightening it against the primary nut using an appropriately sized open-end or box wrench. Always de-energize equipment and depressurize systems before servicing any fastener assembly. Do not overtighten against soft seating surfaces. Stainless steel fasteners are susceptible to galling — apply an appropriate anti-seize compound to the threads before installation if repeated removal is expected.
