The GIBRALTAR GIB53086 is a round U-bolt designed to secure pipe to structural supports in plumbing, HVAC, and general mechanical piping installations. Sized for 1-1/2 inch pipe, it features a 3/8-16 UNC thread with a 1-1/4 inch thread length, giving installers adequate engagement for standard hex nuts. The body is formed from C-1010 steel with a hot galvanized finish for corrosion resistance in wet or outdoor environments. Two nuts are included. At 0.2 pounds, this hardware is a standard single-unit fastener appropriate for professional and light commercial work.
This U-bolt is suited for pipe support and restraint applications where a round-bend, threadless-mount configuration is required. The absence of a mount plate makes it compatible with strut channel, beam clamps, and custom fabricated brackets where the installer supplies their own backing hardware. Typical uses include anchoring copper, steel, or PVC pipe runs in mechanical rooms, crawlspaces, and exposed utility areas. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC mechanics commonly specify this style of U-bolt for support spacing per IFGC and IPC guidelines.
Designed as an OEM-style pipe support fastener for 1-1/2 inch nominal pipe in standard plumbing, HVAC piping, and mechanical systems.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters. De-pressurize and drain the line before securing pipe supports where required by procedure. Use appropriate hand tools to tighten the included nuts evenly on both threaded legs to avoid cocking the U-bolt on the support structure. Refer to IPC or IFGC support-spacing tables for required hanger intervals by pipe size and material.
