The GIBRALTAR GIB53017 is a round U-bolt designed to secure half-inch pipe to structural supports without a mount plate. Manufactured from C-1010 steel with a hot galvanized finish, this fastener resists corrosion in exposed or damp environments. The 1/4-20 UNC thread size with a 1-1/4 inch thread length provides sufficient engagement for standard nuts, and the package includes two nuts for immediate installation. At 2-3/4 inches in overall length and 1 inch in width, the GIB53017 fits standard pipe support applications across plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical piping systems. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of hardware routinely on pipe runs in both new construction and retrofit work.
This U-bolt is suited for supporting or clamping half-inch pipe in residential and light commercial mechanical systems. Typical applications include securing water supply lines, refrigerant lines, gas distribution piping, and HVAC copper or steel pipe runs to joists, strut channel, or framing members. The absence of a mount plate keeps the assembly low-profile where clearance is limited or where the installer supplies their own backing hardware.
Designed for use with half-inch nominal pipe and is sold without a mount plate, intended for installations where the installer provides separate backing or mounts directly to strut and structural framing.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, or mechanical contractors following applicable IPC or IFGC pipe support spacing requirements. Ensure the pipe is properly supported and aligned before tightening the nuts evenly on both threaded legs to avoid cocking the bolt. Do not overtighten, as excessive force can deform the pipe wall, particularly on copper or thin-wall tubing. Verify that the hot galvanized finish is compatible with the pipe material and any dissimilar-metal contact requirements at the install location.
