The GIBRALTAR GIB51550 is a round U-bolt designed to secure 4-inch pipe to structural supports in mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC piping systems. Manufactured from C-1010 steel with a zinc-plated finish for corrosion resistance, this U-bolt uses a 1/2-13 UNC thread with a 3-inch thread length. The round bend profile conforms to the outer diameter of standard 4-inch pipe, and the 4-9/16-inch width accommodates the pipe without distortion. At 0.89 pounds, the fastener is sized for trade installations where a permanent, load-bearing pipe support is required. Four nuts are included, allowing for double-nutting on each threaded rod end for positive locking.
This U-bolt is suited for residential and commercial mechanical installations where rigid pipe support is needed. Typical applications include securing 4-inch schedule pipe runs in HVAC duct support assemblies, plumbing drain and supply lines, and industrial piping where overhead or wall-mounted strut channel is used. The zinc-plated finish provides baseline protection in dry to moderately humid interior environments. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC mechanics routinely use this style of round U-bolt when attaching pipe to Unistrut or similar slotted channel systems without a mount plate.
Designed as an OEM-style pipe support fastener for use with 4-inch nominal pipe on standard slotted strut channel or equivalent structural support framing in mechanical piping installations.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or HVAC mechanic following applicable IPC or IFGC support spacing requirements for the pipe material and fluid carried. De-pressurize and support the pipe run before positioning the U-bolt to prevent movement during tightening. Thread both nuts onto each leg and tighten evenly to prevent cocking the bend against the pipe wall. Do not over-tighten to the point of deforming the pipe surface, particularly on plastic-lined or thin-wall pipe.
