The GIBRALTAR G56412 is a bench pipe combination vise built for heavy-duty trade use in plumbing, pipefitting, and mechanical shops. It features a 5.5-inch jaw width, a 5-inch jaw opening capacity, and a 3.25-inch throat depth, giving technicians the range needed to grip both flat stock and pipe in a single tool. The vise handles pipe up to 2.5 inches in diameter. The body is cast from ductile iron, which resists cracking under the torque loads common in pipe threading and fitting work. A swivel base with bolt-down mounting keeps the vise locked to a workbench during heavy work while allowing repositioning when needed.
This combination vise is suited for plumbing shops, HVAC fabrication benches, pipe fitting operations, and mechanical service facilities where both flat workholding and pipe gripping are routine. The bolt-down swivel base makes it appropriate for permanent or semi-permanent bench installations in residential service shops as well as commercial and light industrial settings. Installers working with copper, steel, or iron pipe will find the dual-purpose jaw design reduces the need to switch between separate tools during a single job.
Designed as a standard bolt-down bench vise for use on heavy-duty workbenches in plumbing, pipefitting, and mechanical service environments where both flat and pipe workholding are required.
Installation is typically performed by a plumber, pipefitter, or shop technician using standard drill and fastener equipment to secure the bolt-down base to a solid workbench surface. Ensure the bench top is rated to support the vise weight and anticipated workload before mounting. Follow the fastener pattern specified in the manufacturer instructions to prevent rocking or shifting under lateral load. Do not exceed the rated pipe capacity, as overtightening on oversized pipe can crack the jaw casting.
