Die springs are installed by toolmakers or die setters during die build or maintenance with the press locked out and all stored energy fully relieved. The spring should be seated concentrically over the guide rod with the rod diameter and hole diameter verified against the design spec before closing the die set. Do not compress the spring beyond its rated maximum deflection, as overcompression accelerates fatigue failure. Follow applicable plant safety and OSHA lockout-tagout procedures before any die entry.
