The GIBRALTAR DCIL12.5-305 is a light-duty die spring designed for use in tooling, stamping, and press applications where consistent return force and long cycle life are required. Built from chromium alloy steel with a trapezoidal wire cross-section, this spring delivers a maximum deflection load of 60 pounds (267 N) across a maximum deflection of 7.75 inches. The 12-inch free length and 0.5-inch hole diameter make it a straightforward drop-in for standard die sets. It is color-coded green per ISO 10243 convention, identifying it as a light-duty spring. Tool and die makers, machine builders, and maintenance technicians are the primary installers of this component.
This spring is suited for light-duty die and punch press applications in manufacturing and industrial maintenance environments. The 9/32-inch (0.2813-inch) rod diameter guides the spring on standard rod stock, and the compressed length at maximum load is 7.75 inches. With a spring rate of 8.0 pounds per inch, it provides predictable, linear force throughout its deflection range. Applications include die sets, jigs, fixtures, and mechanical assemblies requiring repeatable compression force in both manual and automated production settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for light-duty die sets and tooling assemblies using 0.5-inch hole diameter and 9/32-inch rod diameter spring pockets conforming to NAAMS and ISO 10243 dimensional standards.
Installation is performed by tool and die makers or maintenance technicians during die set assembly or scheduled tooling maintenance. Before servicing any press or die assembly, follow lockout/tagout procedures per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 and verify all stored energy is released. Springs should be installed concentrically on the guide rod without lateral preload to avoid uneven wear or premature failure. Do not compress the spring beyond its rated maximum deflection during installation or operation.
