The GIBRALTAR 9538-G is a headless rolling ball end clamping screw designed for workholding and fixturing applications. It features a 5/8-11 UNC thread and a 1-inch overall length (OAL). The rolling ball end is made from stainless steel with a 0.472-inch ball diameter, while the screw body is steel finished in black oxide for corrosion resistance. The headless design allows the screw to sit flush or recessed within a threaded bore, making it well suited for clamps, jigs, fixtures, and tooling setups where a low-profile locking point is needed. Machinists, toolmakers, and fixture builders are the primary installers of this component.
This clamping screw is used in precision workholding fixtures, machine tool setups, and industrial jigs where a positive, low-profile clamping point is required. The rolling ball end reduces marring on workpiece surfaces compared to flat or cup-point designs. It is appropriate for both production and prototype fixturing environments requiring reliable, repeatable clamping force through a threaded interface.
Designed as a standard replacement or new-install clamping screw for inch-series threaded workholding fixtures, jigs, and clamps that accept a 5/8-11 UNC threaded clamping element.
Installation is performed using a hex key or spanner sized to the headless drive recess. Ensure the mating threaded bore is clean and free of debris before threading in the screw. Apply appropriate thread locking compound if vibration is a concern in the application. Do not exceed the torque rating of the fixture body material when tightening.
