The GIBRALTAR 56489 is a light-duty cast iron bench vise designed for general-purpose workbench use in home shops and light trade applications. It features a 4-inch jaw opening capacity and serrated steel jaw pads that grip workpieces without slipping. The swivel base rotates 120 degrees and locks down in position via two dedicated lockdown bolts, giving the user flexible workpiece orientation without repositioning the vise on the bench. The castings are rated at 30,000 PSI and finished with a powder coat for corrosion resistance. Weighing 16.9 pounds, the unit is solid enough for repeated clamping tasks without shifting.
This bench vise is suited for light-duty fastening, holding, and fabrication tasks on a stationary workbench. It is appropriate for home garages, maintenance shops, and hobbyist settings where a compact, bolt-down vise is needed. The 3-point bolt-down base keeps the unit stable under load. Tradespeople performing small part repairs, pipe fitting prep, or light metalwork will find the 4-inch jaw capacity covers most common workpiece sizes in that duty class.
Designed as a general-purpose bench vise for standard workbench bolt-down mounting. Three mounting points accept standard bench bolts. Jaw pads are replaceable for continued serviceability.
Install using a licensed tradesperson or qualified user familiar with bench-mounted tooling. Power down or disconnect any nearby equipment before mounting. Secure all three mounting points with appropriately rated fasteners to prevent movement under load. Do not exceed the rated jaw opening or apply side loads beyond the light-duty rating of the casting.
