The GIBRALTAR 40709G is an equal double threaded stud with a 1/2-13 thread size and an overall length of 5.5 inches. Both ends carry the same thread specification, making this a true equal stud suitable for through-bolting, standoff mounting, and structural fastening applications. Constructed from alloy steel with a black oxide finish, this stud meets Material Grade 5 requirements and a Thread Fit Class 50 designation. It is flat-end ground on both ends. The black oxide coating provides moderate corrosion resistance and reduces light glare in service environments. This hardware is installed by mechanical contractors, millwrights, HVAC technicians, and general trade professionals across a wide range of assemblies.
Equal double threaded studs like the 40709G are used in both residential and commercial applications wherever a fixed threaded post is required at both ends of a joint. Common uses include equipment mounting, pump and motor bases, pipe flange connections, structural brackets, and vibration isolator assemblies. The 1/2-13 coarse thread is one of the most widely used unified national coarse thread sizes in North American trade work, providing broad nut and fitting compatibility across fastener inventories.
Designed as a standard 1/2-13 UNC equal double threaded stud for use with any mating hardware, nut, or coupling that accepts 1/2-13 unified national coarse threads. No specific OEM system compatibility was stated in the product data.
Equal double threaded studs are installed by hand-threading into a tapped hole or coupling, then secured with jam nuts or standard hex nuts on the exposed end. Power down and de-energize any equipment before servicing assemblies where studs are part of electrical or mechanical enclosures. Use a stud driver or two-nut method to install and remove without damaging thread form. Follow applicable torque tables for 1/2-13 Grade 5 fasteners per the relevant structural or mechanical code for your application.
