The GIBRALTAR 34251SS is a non-locking knob handle plunger with a threaded stud body, designed for use in indexing, positioning, and locking applications across industrial and mechanical assemblies. The plunger features a 5/16-18 thread size with a 0.625 inch thread length and a stainless steel construction with a zinc-plated finish for corrosion resistance. Initial end force is 1.5 pounds, with a final end force of 6 pounds, making it suitable for moderate-load retention tasks. The maximum plunger diameter is 0.179 inches with a diameter tolerance of plus 0.001 inches. This component is installed by maintenance technicians, millwrights, and mechanical assemblers in production and field service environments.
The 34251SS is used in jigs, fixtures, machine tool components, and positioning mechanisms where a compact, spring-loaded retention device is needed. The knobless threaded stud style allows the plunger to be installed flush or recessed within a panel or housing, leaving no external knob protrusion. This makes it well suited for applications where clearance is limited or where a low-profile installation is required. The body length of 0.8125 inches keeps the overall installed footprint minimal, and the 0.1875 inch plunger projection provides adequate engagement for most light-to-moderate indexing tasks.
Designed as a standard replacement or new-installation threaded stud plunger for industrial jigs, fixtures, and mechanical positioning assemblies using 5/16-18 threaded mounting holes.
Installation requires threading the stud body into a tapped 5/16-18 hole using appropriate hand tools. Ensure the mating assembly is de-energized and at rest before servicing any indexed or positioned component. The locking element should be engaged after final positioning to prevent rotation of the body under vibration. Do not exceed the rated final end force of 6 pounds when compressing the plunger, as overloading can affect spring performance and plunger tolerances.
