The GIBRALTAR 34245 is a locking knob handle plunger designed for use in mechanical positioning, fixturing, and workholding applications. Built from steel with a zinc-plated finish, this plunger features a 5/16-18 thread size and a 0.625 inch thread length. It delivers an initial end force of 0.5 pounds and a final end force of 2.5 pounds, making it suited for light-duty indexing and retention tasks. The knobless threaded stud style allows the operator to mount a custom knob or handle as required by the assembly. Machinists, millwrights, and equipment maintenance technicians typically install this component during fixture builds or machine setup work.
This plunger is used in industrial and commercial equipment where a spring-loaded, locking retention point is needed. The locking element holds the plunger in the retracted position until deliberately released, which is useful in jig and fixture assemblies, panel-mount applications, and equipment enclosures. The threaded stud body mounts directly into a tapped bore, and the 0.8125 inch length under the head provides adequate engagement depth for standard steel panels and fixtures.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit component for industrial fixtures, jigs, and mechanical assemblies requiring a 5/16-18 threaded locking plunger with a knobless stud configuration.
Installation requires threading the stud body into a pre-tapped 5/16-18 bore to the appropriate torque per the equipment manufacturer's guidelines. Ensure the mounting panel or fixture material provides sufficient thread engagement relative to the 0.625 inch thread length. If a knob or handle is required, select hardware compatible with the 1/4-20 stud thread size. Always de-energize or lock out the machine before servicing any indexing or fixturing components per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures.
