The GIBRALTAR 10638SS is a press fit ball plunger designed for positioning, indexing, and light detent applications in mechanical assemblies. The body is machined from stainless steel with a Delrin ball, combining corrosion resistance with a low-friction contact surface. At 0.312 inches in body diameter and 0.688 inches in body length, this plunger installs by pressing directly into a drilled or reamed hole without threads or retaining hardware. Initial end force is 8 pounds, with a final end force of 16 pounds at full ball compression. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and precision assembly mechanics work with this type of component in fixtures, jigs, and production tooling.
The 10638SS is suited for use in light-duty detent and positioning applications where a non-threaded, flush-mount installation is preferred. The stainless steel body resists corrosion in wash-down and high-humidity environments. The Delrin ball minimizes surface marking on mating components, making it appropriate for use against finished or coated surfaces. This plunger is commonly installed in sheet metal fixtures, plastic assembly tooling, drawer slides, and similar mechanical hardware requiring consistent, repeatable ball detent action.
Designed as a standard press fit ball plunger for use in mechanical fixtures, jigs, tooling plates, and assembly hardware requiring a non-threaded detent or positioning element.
Press fit ball plungers are installed by precision trades including machinists and tool and die technicians. The receiving hole must be drilled and reamed to the correct diameter to achieve proper interference fit; an undersized hole may crack the bore, and an oversized hole will not retain the plunger. Use an arbor press or similar controlled-force equipment to seat the plunger flush without damaging the ball or body. No adhesive or thread locker is required for a properly sized press fit application.
