The George Risk Industries 4704-A is a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) pull-apart surface mount cabinet contact designed for alarm and security system applications. It provides a reliable switched circuit that triggers when a cabinet door or panel is opened, making it a core component in intrusion detection and access monitoring installations. The SPDT switching configuration allows the contact to support both normally open and normally closed circuit configurations within a single device, giving installers flexibility in panel wiring and zone setup. Security system technicians and alarm installers are the primary trades working with this component.
The 4704-A is suited for surface mounting directly to cabinet enclosures, electrical panels, server rack doors, and similar hinged or removable covers where monitoring access events is required. Its pull-apart design means the two halves separate when the door opens, breaking or making the circuit depending on wiring configuration. This makes it appropriate for commercial and residential alarm systems, industrial control enclosures, and utility cabinet monitoring where tamper detection is required.
Designed as an OEM-style surface mount cabinet contact for use with standard alarm panels and security control systems that accept SPDT dry-contact zone inputs.
Installation is typically performed by licensed alarm technicians or low-voltage security system installers. Power down the associated alarm panel or isolate the zone before wiring the contact to avoid false triggers or panel faults. Surface mount contacts are fastened directly to the cabinet frame and mating door surface using appropriate screws or adhesive per the manufacturer data sheet. Confirm zone wiring polarity and EOL resistor requirements with the alarm control panel documentation before completing the installation.
