The GEORG FISCHER 9861-170 is a Schedule 80 CPVC close nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in both potable and non-potable water systems. Manufactured from Chlorfit CPVC, this nipple handles a maximum operating pressure of 260 psi at 73 degrees F and a maximum pressure rating of 420 psi, with a maximum temperature of 210 degrees F. The fully threaded male NPT configuration on both ends allows direct connection without additional fittings. At 1.63 inches in overall length and 1.66 inches in outside diameter, it fits standard 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe size Schedule 80 fittings. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this nipple in commercial and industrial piping systems where corrosion resistance and elevated temperature performance are required.
This close nipple is suited for residential and commercial plumbing applications where Schedule 80 CPVC piping is specified. It is commonly used in chemical handling, hot and cold water distribution, and industrial process lines where metal corrosion is a concern. The gray color is standard for Schedule 80 CPVC pipe and fittings, aiding visual identification on the job. Both potable water and non-potable water applications are supported per its NSF 61 and NSF 14 listings.
Designed for use with Schedule 80 CPVC fittings and piping in 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe size systems. Compatible with systems requiring NPT threaded male connections on both ends.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC requirements. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Use CPVC-compatible thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for CPVC; do not use petroleum-based pipe dopes, which can degrade CPVC. Hand-tighten first, then apply moderate wrench pressure to avoid over-torquing and cracking the fitting.
