The GEORG FISCHER 837-628 is a flush-style reducer bushing machined from Schedule 80 PVC, designed to transition pipe from a 10-inch spigot connection down to an 8-inch socket connection within industrial and commercial plumbing systems. The flush outside diameter profile keeps the bushing seated cleanly inside a fitting hub without protruding, making it the correct choice when clearance or aesthetics inside a fitting socket matter. At 5 pounds and approximately 5.72 inches in length, this is a substantial, full-bodied bushing built to the wall thickness and pressure ratings of Schedule 80 pipe. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on PVC pressure or drainage systems are the typical installers.
This reducer bushing is used in commercial and industrial plumbing installations where a larger-diameter Schedule 80 PVC pipeline must transition to a smaller downstream run. The flush spigot-by-socket (SPG x S) configuration allows it to be solvent-cemented directly into a standard socket fitting on one end while accepting a solvent-cemented socket connection on the other. Common applications include process piping, chemical handling lines, irrigation manifolds, and municipal water distribution laterals where PVC is the specified material.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using standard 10-inch socket fittings on the receiving end and 8-inch socket connections on the outlet end.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters familiar with Schedule 80 PVC solvent-cement procedures. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before cutting in or replacing any fitting. Clean and dry both mating surfaces, apply the appropriate PVC primer and Schedule 80-rated solvent cement per the cement manufacturer's instructions and applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Allow full cure time before restoring pressure to the system; do not force early pressure testing.
