The GEORG FISCHER 829-422 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducing coupling designed to transition between 4-inch and 3-inch pipe in pressure-rated piping systems. Manufactured from rigid PVC, this socket-by-socket (SXS) fitting accepts solvent-cement connections on both ends, providing a reliable, leak-free joint when installed per ASTM D2564 procedures. At 1.75 pounds and roughly 4.38 inches in length, it is a compact, full-bodied fitting suited for above-ground and below-ground plumbing installations where Schedule 80 wall thickness is specified. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters working in industrial, commercial, and municipal systems will recognize this as a standard reducing coupling profile.
This fitting is used in Schedule 80 PVC piping systems requiring a concentric reduction from 4 inches to 3 inches. Typical applications include process piping, chemical distribution lines, irrigation manifolds, and commercial plumbing drain or pressure lines where the heavier Schedule 80 wall is required by code or system design. It is appropriate for both aboveground and underground service within the pressure and temperature limits of Schedule 80 PVC.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC piping systems using 4-inch and 3-inch nominal pipe sizes with solvent-cement socket connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter following local plumbing codes and ASTM D2564 solvent-cementing procedures for PVC pressure pipe. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before cutting into an existing line. Both pipe ends and fitting sockets must be properly cut square, deburred, cleaned, and primed before applying PVC solvent cement. Do not apply heat to accelerate curing or attempt to pressurize the joint before the full cure time recommended by the cement manufacturer has elapsed.
