The GENESIS CABLE 45221004 is a 14/2 stranded FPLP-rated fire alarm cable supplied on a 1000-foot reel in red jacket. FPLP designates a plenum-rated fire protective signaling cable, meaning the insulation and jacket compounds meet the low-smoke, low-flame-spread requirements for installation in air-handling spaces and plenum ceiling return-air plenums. The two-conductor, 14 AWG stranded configuration makes it well-suited for fire alarm initiating device circuits, notification appliance circuits, and auxiliary control wiring where a larger gauge is specified. Licensed fire alarm technicians and low-voltage electricians are the primary installers of this product.
This cable is used in commercial and residential fire alarm systems where NEC Article 760 and local fire codes require plenum-rated wiring in air-handling spaces. Red jacketing provides visual identification consistent with fire alarm system color conventions. The stranded conductor construction offers improved flexibility compared to solid conductor cable, making it easier to route through conduit and around obstructions in ceiling plenum spaces. Typical applications include pull stations, smoke detectors, horn-strobe circuits, and control panel wiring runs.
Designed as an FPLP plenum-rated replacement or new-installation cable for 14/2 fire alarm wiring applications in commercial and residential fire protective signaling systems.
Installation must be performed by a licensed fire alarm technician or low-voltage electrician in accordance with NEC Article 760 and applicable local fire codes. De-energize the fire alarm panel and follow the system manufacturer lockout and tagout procedures before making any circuit connections. FPLP-rated cable must be used where the raceway or open wiring passes through plenum air-handling spaces; do not substitute a non-plenum-rated cable in these areas. Verify minimum bend radius requirements and avoid kinking the reel during installation to maintain conductor and insulation integrity.
