The Generic Wire and Cable thhn12strgrn/yel500r is an 8 AWG, 19-strand copper THHN building wire rated at 600 volts with a 90 degrees C dry temperature rating. The conductor is insulated with PVC thermoplastic and jacketed in nylon, making it suitable for conduit installations in both dry and wet locations where THHN or THWN-2 designations are required. Current capacity ranges from 40 amps at 60 degrees C to 55 amps at 90 degrees C, covering the full range of NEC ampacity tables for this conductor size. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install this wire in residential, commercial, and light industrial branch circuit and feeder applications.
This 8 AWG THHN wire is used in conduit runs for branch circuits, feeder conductors, and panel-to-subpanel wiring in residential and commercial construction. The 19-strand configuration provides flexibility compared to solid conductor wire, making it easier to pull through conduit and terminate at lugs or breakers. The white insulation color supports standard NEC color-coding practices for neutral or identified conductors in multi-wire branch circuits and feeder applications. It is appropriate for use in EMT, rigid metal conduit, PVC conduit, and similar raceway systems.
Designed as a standard THHN building wire replacement or new-installation conductor for use in conduit raceway systems where 8 AWG copper THHN wire is specified.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before terminating or splicing conductors. Use appropriate wire-pulling lubricant when pulling through conduit to avoid insulation damage. Verify conduit fill calculations per NEC Chapter 9 before installation.
