The GENERALAIRE 5144 is a bypass-style evaporative humidifier rated at 17 gallons per day (GPD), designed for forced-air heating systems in residential applications. The unit ships complete with the MHX3C humidistat, pad 7002, and model 990-13 components, making it a full-system solution for whole-home humidity control. Licensed HVAC technicians install this type of humidifier inline with the supply or return plenum, where conditioned air passes through an evaporator pad to absorb moisture before distribution. The included humidistat provides automatic humidity sensing and control, eliminating the need to source a separate control device.
The 5144 is the Legacy 1042-LH model, suited for residential forced-air systems where maintaining indoor relative humidity is required during heating season. Typical installations occur on gas, oil, or electric furnace systems with a dedicated water supply line. The included pad 7002 is the evaporator media that carries the moisture load and will require periodic replacement as part of routine seasonal maintenance.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation humidifier for residential forced-air HVAC systems. Paired components — MHX3C humidistat, pad 7002, and 990-13 — are included as part of the 5144 kit.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician. Before beginning, shut down the furnace and disconnect power at the disconnect or breaker. A dedicated water supply line and condensate drain must be available at the installation point on the supply or return plenum. Follow local mechanical codes and the manufacturer installation guide for low-voltage humidistat wiring and bypass damper positioning.
