The General Filters 1603 is a spin-on fuel oil filter assembly designed for residential and light commercial oil-fired heating systems. It combines a machined aluminum head with a galvanized steel mounting bracket and an epoxy-coated disposable spin-on filter element. A built-in filter restriction indicator alerts service technicians when the element is loaded and due for replacement. The unit supports a maximum firing rate of 10 gallons per hour and filters fuel to 10 microns, protecting downstream components such as fuel pumps and nozzles from particulate contamination. The 3/8-inch NPT inlet and outlet connections fit standard oil supply line fittings. The B100 BIOGasket construction makes this assembly compatible with biodiesel blends up to B100.
The 1603 is suited for single-pipe and two-pipe fuel oil supply systems serving residential oil burners and small commercial heating equipment. It installs on the oil supply line between the tank and the burner fuel unit. The galvanized bracket mounts in an up or down orientation to accommodate different installation configurations. Licensed oil burner technicians and HVAC service professionals install this filter during annual tune-ups or as a direct replacement for failing or clogged inline oil filters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement spin-on fuel oil filter for residential and light commercial oil-fired heating systems using 3/8-inch NPT supply line connections and requiring 10-micron filtration.
Installation should be performed by a licensed oil burner technician or qualified HVAC service professional. Shut off the fuel supply valve and de-energize the burner before removing the existing filter. Ensure all fittings are leak-tested at the inlet and outlet connections after installation before restoring fuel flow and firing the burner. Consult local fuel oil system codes and the equipment manufacturer's instructions for torque and assembly requirements.
