The GENERAL ELECTRIC nf97u110m5c is a modulating upflow and horizontal flow gas furnace rated at 110,000 BTU/h output with a 97% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. Modulating operation allows the burner to adjust heat output in small increments rather than cycling fully on and off, which reduces temperature swings and lowers fuel consumption. At 97% AFUE, nearly all of the fuel energy is converted to usable heat, qualifying this unit as a high-efficiency condensing furnace. Licensed HVAC technicians install this equipment in residential and light-commercial applications where natural gas is the primary fuel source.
This furnace is configured for upflow or horizontal airflow, making it suitable for installation in basements, mechanical rooms, closets, or attic spaces where horizontal runs are required. The 5-ton nominal capacity and 110,000 BTU/h rating address whole-home heating loads in medium to large residential structures. The modulating burner pairs well with variable-speed air handler or blower systems to maximize comfort and efficiency across a range of outdoor temperatures and building load conditions.
Designed as a high-efficiency modulating replacement or new-installation gas furnace for residential upflow and horizontal flow duct systems where 110,000 BTU/h heating capacity and 97% AFUE performance are required.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) and all applicable local codes. As a condensing furnace, this unit requires Schedule 40 PVC or CPVC venting material rather than metal B-vent. Shut off gas supply and disconnect electrical power before servicing or replacing any components. Condensate drainage must be properly routed and trapped per manufacturer guidelines and local plumbing codes.
