The GENERAL ELECTRIC nf96u110s5c is a single-stage, upflow and horizontal-flow natural gas furnace rated at 110,000 BTU/h output with a 96% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. That efficiency rating means 96 cents of every fuel dollar goes toward usable heat, placing this unit in the condensing furnace category. It is designed for residential forced-air heating systems and is typically installed and commissioned by a licensed HVAC technician. The single-stage burner operates at one fixed heat output, making it well suited for straightforward replacement applications where variable or two-stage firing is not required.
This furnace supports upflow and horizontal airflow configurations, giving installers flexibility in placement within a utility room, closet, basement, attic, or crawlspace application. The 110,000 BTU/h heat capacity targets larger residential structures or homes with higher heating load requirements. The 96% AFUE rating meets ENERGY STAR thresholds applicable in most U.S. climate zones and satisfies many regional efficiency mandates for new and replacement installations.
Designed as an OEM-style single-stage condensing gas furnace for residential forced-air heating systems in upflow or horizontal-flow installations.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with local mechanical codes, the National Fuel Gas Code (NFPA 54), and the manufacturer instructions. As a condensing furnace, this unit requires PVC or CPVC vent piping for both the flue exhaust and combustion air intake — do not connect to a B-vent or single-pipe metal flue system. Shut off the gas supply and disconnect electrical power before servicing or replacing any components. Condensate drainage must be properly trapped and routed to an approved drain per local plumbing code.
