The GENERAL ELECTRIC nf96u090v3c is a two-stage, upflow and horizontal-flow gas furnace rated at 90,000 BTU/h output with a 96% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. Two-stage operation means the burner runs at a reduced capacity on mild days and steps up to full fire only when the load demands it, which reduces short-cycling and improves comfort. At 96% AFUE, nearly all of the fuel energy is converted to usable heat, making this a high-efficiency condensing furnace. Licensed HVAC technicians install and commission this unit as part of a split or packaged heating system in residential or light-commercial applications.
This furnace is configured for upflow or horizontal airflow, giving installers flexibility when fitting the unit into a utility closet, basement, crawlspace, or attic application. The two-stage gas valve and compatible blower assembly allow the system to match a two-stage or variable thermostat for more precise zone control. Installations that require low-profile or horizontal orientation benefit from the dual-position cabinet design without needing a separate conversion kit. This unit is appropriate for residential new-construction and retrofit heating projects where high-efficiency gas heat is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style high-efficiency two-stage gas furnace for residential and light-commercial forced-air heating systems. Confirm airflow orientation, gas type, electrical supply, and duct sizing against local load calculations before installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code (NFPA 54), the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), and all applicable local codes. Shut off the gas supply and disconnect electrical power before any service work on the unit. As a condensing furnace, this model requires PVC or CPVC flue venting and a condensate drain line routed to an approved drain. Do not use B-vent or single-wall metal flue pipe with a 96% AFUE condensing furnace.
