The GENERAL ELECTRIC nf96d045s3b is a single-stage downflow natural gas furnace rated at 45,000 BTU/h input with a 96% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. This efficiency rating places it in the condensing-furnace category, meaning it extracts heat from flue gases that standard furnaces exhaust. Designed for downflow installations, the unit discharges conditioned air downward through the floor or a downflow plenum. Licensed HVAC technicians handle installation and startup of this equipment.
This furnace is suited for residential downflow applications where ductwork runs beneath the living space, such as slab-on-grade construction or closet-style installations with under-floor distribution. A 45,000 BTU/h input capacity is appropriate for smaller homes or zones with moderate heating loads. The 96% AFUE rating meets or exceeds many regional energy efficiency standards for gas-fired heating equipment, making it applicable in markets with stricter minimum-efficiency requirements.
Designed as an OEM single-stage downflow gas furnace for residential heating systems requiring a downflow discharge configuration with high-efficiency condensing operation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with the manufacturer instructions, local mechanical codes, and the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC). Shut off the gas supply and disconnect electrical power before any service or connections. Condensing furnaces require a properly pitched condensate drain line; do not allow condensate to pool or back up into the unit. A combustion air and venting system must be sized and installed per the unit documentation before startup.
