The GENERAL ELECTRIC 16Y36 is a 5 kW electric heat kit designed for use without an included circuit breaker, requiring the ECBA25-5 breaker as a separate component. This resistance heat kit installs inside compatible air handler units to provide supplemental or primary electric heat in split-system HVAC applications. Licensed HVAC technicians handle installation, which involves mounting the element assembly into the air handler cabinet and connecting the kit to the existing low-voltage and line-voltage wiring. At 3 pounds, the kit is lightweight and straightforward to stage and handle on the job.
This heat kit is specified for use exclusively on NAM series air handlers with P1, T1, and V1 configurations, as designated by the manufacturer. It is intended for residential or light-commercial split-system installations where supplemental electric heat is required. The 5 kW output makes it suitable for smaller zones or mild-climate applications where a modest heat strip capacity is sufficient. Note that no circuit breaker is included with this kit — the ECBA25-5 breaker must be ordered and installed separately to complete the assembly.
For use only on NAM series air handlers with P1, T1, and V1 configurations. Requires the ECBA25-5 circuit breaker, sold separately. Do not install on air handler models outside the specified NAM P1, T1, and V1 designations.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local codes. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power to the air handler before beginning work. Verify that the ECBA25-5 circuit breaker is installed in the unit prior to energizing the heat kit, as the kit ships without a breaker and must not be operated without one. Inspect all connections and ensure the heat kit is fully seated and secured in the air handler cabinet before restoring power.
