The GENERAL 162R is a ratcheting T-handle tap wrench designed for threading operations in metal, plastic, and other materials. Built from steel, it accepts taps up to 1/2 inch in tap capacity and measures 4.25 inches in overall length, making it compact enough for tight workspaces. The ratcheting mechanism allows controlled, incremental turning without repositioning the handle between strokes. This tool is used by machinists, plumbers, electricians, and general tradespeople for hand-tapping threaded holes during fabrication, repair, and installation work.
The GENERAL 162R suits hand-tapping applications across a range of trades and shop environments. Its compact overall length and T-handle design give the user a firm, controlled grip when starting taps or working in confined areas. The ratcheting action is particularly useful when clearance prevents a full rotation of the handle, which is a common challenge in field service and close-quarters fabrication. Suitable for light to moderate tapping work on standard tap sizes up to 1/2 inch.
Designed as a general-purpose hand tap wrench compatible with standard taps up to 1/2 inch in diameter across common tap shank sizes.
Hand tap wrenches are used by machinists, plumbers, and tradespeople to drive taps manually into pre-drilled holes. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the pilot hole diameter matches the tap specification before beginning. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Do not exceed the rated tap capacity, as overloading a tap wrench can cause tap breakage or damage to the wrench chuck.
