The GENERAL ELECTRIC ns17a36ta5 is a 3-ton, two-stage central air conditioner rated at 17 SEER2 and designed for residential split-system cooling installations. It operates on R454B refrigerant, a lower-GWP alternative now required under current EPA regulations. The two-stage compressor reduces short-cycling and allows the unit to run at a lower capacity during mild conditions, improving humidity control and run-time efficiency. At 152 pounds net weight, the unit ships at approximately 157 pounds. Service valves are positioned at 45 degrees with extended connections, making field access straightforward with standard, readily available tools. Licensed HVAC technicians perform the installation and commissioning.
This condensing unit is suited for residential split-system applications paired with a compatible air handler or furnace coil. The 17 SEER2 efficiency rating meets current minimum standards in applicable climate regions. Its gray cabinet finish is a standard outdoor-rated housing. The 45-degree service valve design reduces the need for specialty wrenches in tight equipment-pad or roof-curb installations, speeding up routine refrigerant service calls.
Designed as an OEM split-system condensing unit intended for use with a compatible indoor air handler or evaporator coil sized for 3-ton capacity and rated for R454B refrigerant systems.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician holding an EPA Section 608 certification for handling regulated refrigerants. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power before making any refrigerant or electrical connections. The unit should be set on a level pad or mounting surface per local mechanical codes and manufacturer clearance requirements. Do not pressurize or charge the system with any refrigerant other than R454B.
