The GATOR 9716 is a Type 29 zirconium oxide flap disc designed for aggressive material removal on angle grinders. The disc measures 4.5 inches in diameter with a 0.875-inch arbor hole and runs at 60 grit, making it well suited for heavy stock removal, weld blending, and surface preparation on metal. The Type 29 conical shape positions the abrasive at an optimum grinding angle, allowing full contact across the disc surface. Zirconium oxide grain provides a self-sharpening cut that maintains consistent material removal throughout the disc life. Fabricators, welders, pipefitters, and ironworkers reach for this disc when they need fast, controlled cutting action on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
The 9716 is used in metalworking and fabrication applications where rapid material removal is the priority. Common tasks include deburring weld seams, grinding down spatter, shaping stock, and blending transitions on structural steel, pipe, and sheet metal. The 60-grit designation makes this disc appropriate for initial grinding passes rather than finishing work. It fits standard angle grinders that accept a 4.5-inch disc with a 0.875-inch arbor. Sold individually.
Designed for use with angle grinders accepting a 4.5-inch Type 29 flap disc with a 0.875-inch arbor hole.
Flap disc installation and operation should be performed by operators familiar with angle grinder safety. Before mounting, confirm the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc RPM rating marked on the disc. Power down and unplug or lock out the grinder before changing discs. Always use the correct guard and wear appropriate PPE including a face shield and gloves during operation.
