The GATOR 9706 is a Type 29 zirconium oxide flap disc engineered for aggressive material removal on angle grinders. Measuring 4 inches in diameter with a 5/8-inch arbor bore and loaded with 60-grit abrasive, this disc is built for trades professionals who need to cut down welds, deburr plate steel, or prep metal surfaces fast. The conical Type 29 profile presents the abrasive at an optimum grinding angle, keeping more of the disc face in contact with the workpiece throughout the cut. Rated for use with standard angle grinders, the 9706 is a go-to consumable for fabricators, ironworkers, pipefitters, and general metalwork contractors.
This flap disc fits into any workflow that calls for rapid stock removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The Type 29 geometry is particularly suited to flat and contoured surface work where a flat Type 27 disc would lose contact angle. Typical applications include weld blending, rust removal, and edge grinding on structural steel, pipe, and sheet metal. Sold individually, the 9706 is a practical single-unit option for job-site replenishment or bench stocking.
Designed as a standard-fit replacement flap disc for angle grinders accepting a 4-inch, 5/8-inch arbor disc.
Flap disc installation and replacement should be performed by qualified personnel following applicable ANSI B7.1 safety standards for abrasive wheels. Always power down and unplug or lock out the angle grinder before mounting or removing a disc. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and never exceed the maximum RPM rating printed on the disc label. Eye protection and appropriate PPE are required during operation.
