The GATOR 9649 is a Type 27 depressed-center cut-off and grinding wheel designed for use on angle grinders. Built from industrial-grade silicon carbide abrasive, it measures 7 inches in diameter with a 1/4-inch thickness and a 5/8-inch-11 arbor bore. The double-reinforced construction extends wheel life and supports faster, more aggressive cuts. It handles heavy-duty cutting, grinding, and deburring on metal stock. This wheel is suited for low-angle and vertical grinding orientations. Licensed tradespeople in fabrication, HVAC, plumbing, and general construction commonly reach for this type of wheel when cutting ferrous metal with a standard angle grinder.
The GATOR 9649 is intended for metal cutting and grinding applications in both shop and field environments. The Type 27 profile makes it particularly effective for flat surface grinding, weld dressing, and deburring on structural steel, pipe, and sheet metal. Its depressed-center design provides clearance for the grinder flange, allowing the full cutting face to contact the workpiece during low-angle passes. The silicon carbide grain is well-matched to ferrous metal work where consistent stock removal is required.
Designed for use on angle grinders with a 5/8-inch-11 arbor and a minimum 7-inch wheel rating. Verify maximum RPM rating on the wheel matches or exceeds the grinder's no-load speed before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified tradesperson following the grinder manufacturer's wheel-mounting procedure. Power down and disconnect the grinder from its power source before mounting or removing the wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before each use and never exceed the maximum RPM marked on the wheel. Always use the appropriate guard and wear ANSI-rated eye and face protection during operation.
