The GATOR 4733 is a 180-grit abrasive sand cloth roll designed for cleaning and abrading pipes, fittings, plumbing joints, wood spindles, shafts, and wrought iron surfaces before soldering or assembly. It measures 1 inch wide by 10 feet long and is constructed with resin-over-resin bonded aluminum oxide abrasive on an extra heavy cloth backing that resists tearing during aggressive hand-sanding. The fine 180-grit rating makes it well suited for surface prep work where a smooth, oxide-free surface is required for a reliable joint. Weighing 0.118 pounds, the roll is compact and easy to carry on a service call.
This sand cloth roll is a standard consumable in plumbing service and installation work. It is used primarily to clean copper pipe and fittings prior to soldering, removing oxidation and surface contamination that would otherwise prevent solder from flowing properly. It also sees use in light mechanical and woodworking applications where controlled hand-sanding of round or irregular profiles is needed. The 10-foot roll length provides enough material for multiple jobs before replacement.
Designed as a general-purpose abrasive consumable for plumbing pipe and fitting preparation. Compatible with copper, wrought iron, and similar materials commonly encountered in residential and light commercial plumbing work.
Abrasive sand cloth of this type is typically used by licensed plumbers and pipefitters during pre-solder surface preparation. Always clean sanded surfaces with flux before soldering and follow applicable plumbing codes, including IPC requirements, for joint preparation. Wear eye protection when sanding in tight or overhead spaces. Dispose of used cloth properly, as it may carry flux residue or metal particles.
