The FRIEDRICH FRP14AY48AJ2NA is a two-stage heat pump rated at 48,000 BTU/h cooling capacity and 14 SEER2 efficiency, designed for residential and light-commercial split-system applications. Operating on R454B refrigerant, this unit delivers both cooling and heating from a single outdoor condenser. The two-stage compressor allows the system to run at a reduced capacity during moderate conditions, lowering runtime energy consumption and improving indoor comfort. Installation and commissioning are performed by licensed HVAC technicians familiar with low-GWP refrigerant handling and current EPA Section 608 requirements.
This heat pump is suited for forced-air split systems in residential new-construction and retrofit projects where a 4-ton cooling load has been determined by Manual J or equivalent load calculation. The R454B refrigerant designation means the system requires compatible R454B-rated components throughout the refrigerant circuit, including the matched indoor coil and line set. Two-stage operation is particularly effective in climates with wide temperature swings, where single-speed equipment tends to short-cycle.
Designed as an OEM split-system outdoor heat pump condenser intended for use with a matched indoor air handler or coil assembly rated for R454B refrigerant and sized for 4-ton, two-stage operation.
Installation must be performed by an EPA Section 608 certified HVAC technician with experience handling A2L refrigerants, as R454B is classified mildly flammable. Shut off all electrical power to the system at the disconnect and breaker panel before making any electrical or refrigerant connections. Follow the current edition of ASHRAE 15 and all local mechanical codes for A2L refrigerant handling, clearances, and leak detection requirements. Do not mix R454B with any other refrigerant or use components not rated for R454B service.
