The FRIEDRICH FR802V0503A14UHSCAP is an 80 percent AFUE single-stage natural gas furnace built for upflow and horizontal installations. Rated at 50,000 BTU/h, it pairs an ECM variable-speed blower motor with a two-stage gas valve to deliver consistent airflow and improved comfort at partial-load conditions. At 14 inches wide, the cabinet fits in tighter mechanical spaces where larger units cannot. Licensed HVAC technicians install and commission this unit in residential and light-commercial applications matched to 3-ton cooling equipment.
This furnace is designed for upflow and horizontal configurations, making it suitable for installations in basements, closets, and attic platforms where ductwork layout demands flexible orientation. The 3-ton nominal blower capacity allows the unit to serve as the air handler for a matched split-system cooling coil. Its 14-inch cabinet width fits standard narrow-profile furnace openings common in retrofit and new-construction residential builds. The ECM motor reduces electrical consumption during blower operation compared to a PSC motor of equivalent airflow output.
Designed as an OEM-style upflow and horizontal gas furnace for residential natural gas heating systems with 3-ton nominal cooling coil configurations.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code (NFGC), local mechanical codes, and the manufacturer installation instructions. Shut off gas supply and disconnect electrical power before any service work. Verify flue venting, gas line sizing, and electrical supply meet code requirements for the rated input capacity before startup. Do not operate the unit without all panels secured and proper venting in place.
