The FRIEDRICH FR801V1005A21DZSCAP is a natural gas furnace rated at 80 percent AFUE and 100,000 BTU/h output. It uses a downflow configuration and is equipped with an ECM variable-speed motor, giving the blower the ability to modulate airflow across different operating conditions. Single-stage heating keeps the control sequence straightforward while the variable-speed blower handles comfort and efficiency at the air-distribution level. At 21 inches wide, this unit fits standard residential downflow applications where cabinet width is a common constraint. Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians.
This furnace is configured for downflow discharge, making it suited for installations where supply air is delivered through the floor — common in slab-on-grade homes, manufactured housing, and certain platform-mounted closet applications. The 5-nominal-ton blower capacity allows it to pair with larger central air conditioning systems. The ECM motor reduces electrical draw during part-load blower operation compared to a standard PSC motor, which benefits overall system efficiency when the unit is used in a matched split system.
Designed as an OEM-style downflow gas furnace for residential natural gas heating systems requiring an 80 percent AFUE, single-stage, ECM variable-speed unit in a 21-inch cabinet width.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with the current edition of the IFGC, NFPA 54, and all applicable local codes. Shut off the gas supply and disconnect electrical power before beginning any service or replacement work. This unit requires a properly sized flue venting system compatible with an 80 percent non-condensing gas appliance — do not connect to a Category I vent rated for a different heat exchanger efficiency class. Verify that the electrical supply, gas line sizing, and return-air plenum are matched to the unit specifications before commissioning.
