The FREUD FB-012 is a 1-5/8 inch Forstner bit from the Diablo Series, designed for drilling clean, flat-bottom holes in wood and most wood-based products. Constructed from high speed steel, this bit features a sharp center spur that precisely locates the center of the hole before the cutting edges engage. With an overall length of 3-1/2 inches and a 3/8 inch shank diameter, it fits standard drill presses and handheld drills. This tool is used by carpenters, cabinet installers, and woodworkers who need accurate, splinter-free bore holes for hardware installation, joinery, and furniture construction.
The FB-012 is suited for residential and commercial woodworking applications. It handles flat-bottom holes, pocket holes, and overlapping holes in solid wood, plywood, MDF, and similar engineered wood products. Its geometry allows partial overlapping cuts without the bit wandering, making it practical for hinge mortising, shelf pin boring, and dowel work. The 3/8 inch shank is compatible with most standard drill chucks.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fit for use in drill presses and handheld drills accepting a 3/8 inch round shank, suitable for drilling solid wood and most wood-based panel products.
This bit is installed by carpenters, woodworkers, and finish tradespeople using a drill press or variable-speed handheld drill. Secure the 3/8 inch shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify the workpiece is clamped to prevent movement during drilling. Use appropriate feed pressure for the wood species and avoid forcing the bit through dense material, which can cause overheating of the high speed steel cutting edges. Always wear eye protection when operating rotary cutting tools.
