The FREUD DIB1060 is an installer drill bit designed for wire and cable installation in wood framing and stacked lumber applications. Measuring 5/16 inches in diameter and 18 inches in length, this bit drives fast, straight holes through clean wood and built-up lumber assemblies. The ultra-sharp tip maintains point integrity over repeated use, reducing walk and improving hole accuracy. Black oxide coated flutes resist debris adhesion and promote rapid chip evacuation, keeping the bit moving efficiently through the cut. A 3-flat shank locks into the drill chuck and eliminates bit rotation under load. Electricians and low-voltage installers reach for this bit when running cable through structural members in new construction and retrofit work.
This bit is suited for residential and light commercial electrical, data, and low-voltage cable installation. Typical applications include drilling through wall plates, floor joists, and stud bays to route wire, coax, structured wiring, and similar cable types. The 18-inch length provides the reach needed to drive through multiple framing members from a single access point. A small hole in the flute allows the installer to thread a pull wire or fish tape directly through the bit after drilling, making cable feeding a one-step operation rather than a two-step process. This feature is particularly useful in tight framing cavities where separate fishing tools are difficult to maneuver.
Designed for use with standard 3-flat or round-chuck power drills and right-angle drills commonly used in electrical and low-voltage wire installation through wood framing members.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians or low-voltage technicians following applicable NEC requirements for drilling clearances and nail plate protection in framing members. Confirm the drill chuck is securely tightened on all three flats of the shank before use. Inspect the bit tip for damage before each use and replace any bit with a chipped or rolled tip to avoid off-angle holes. Keep bystanders clear of the work area when drilling overhead or through concealed cavities.
