Oil filter replacement is performed by automotive and diesel technicians as part of a standard oil service. Always drain and dispose of used oil properly before removing the old filter. Hand-tighten the new filter until the gasket contacts the mounting surface, then snug with a filter wrench per the engine manufacturer's service procedure. Do not over-tighten, and verify there are no leaks after restarting the engine.
