The FORNEY INDUSTRIES INC 43401 is a hard cast iron welding electrode designed specifically for welding dirty, heat-affected, and oxidized cast iron. Classified as an ESTCI Noma Cast electrode, it features a non-conductive coating developed to handle contaminated base metal conditions where standard electrodes fall short. The electrode measures 1/8 inches in diameter and is sold in 1-pound units. It produces a non-machinable weld deposit, making it best suited for structural or cosmetic repairs where post-weld machining is not required. Licensed welders and certified fabricators working on cast iron components rely on this electrode when base metal cleanliness cannot be guaranteed.
This electrode is ideally used in applications involving machine bases, pedestals, frames, and housings where heat tolerance and machinability are not critical requirements. It is also well suited for cladding contaminated castings prior to joining with high nickel alloy electrodes, making it a useful first-pass option in multi-process cast iron repair workflows. Typical installations occur in industrial maintenance, foundry repair, and heavy equipment service environments where cast iron weldability is compromised by surface oxidation or contamination.
Designed as an OEM-style specialty welding electrode for use on hard and contaminated cast iron base metals, including machine bases, pedestals, frames, and housings where post-weld machinability is not required.
This electrode is intended for use by qualified welders familiar with cast iron welding procedures. Always follow applicable AWS and workplace safety standards when welding cast iron, including proper preheat and interpass temperature practices appropriate to the base metal thickness. Ensure adequate ventilation, as cast iron welding produces fumes requiring respiratory protection per OSHA guidelines. Do not use this electrode where a machinable weld deposit is required.
